Brendan’s smile matched our glowing sun as he watched his bride glide onto the scene. They shared the sweetest vows and left everyone hiding their tears behind paper fans. Their nephews and nieces continuously filled the space with bubbles from their bubble guns, pure magic amongst an already magical afternoon.

While engagement photos might feel like a must-have-high-stakes-situation, my stance is a bit more casual. Engagement photos should just be for the hell of it. We’re here to have fun, get to know me as your photographer, and feel comfortable in front of the camera. It’s an opportunity to dress-up or dress-down for a fun and creative afternoon with your love.

The post-covid wedding world has opened couples up to more customization. We’ve slowly but surely shaken off the necessity for a traditional checklist.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I utilize film to capture the day in smaller, more intentional snippets; as if the digital is my coverage and my prep for the true moment I’m trying to capture.

I could spend days on end with these two folks and their infectious energy. I loved capturing every detail, every in-between moment, and every theatrical event woven into the wedding.

Since she’ll be helping people with their own home renos it was important to us that we captured her in as many corners of her self-designed home as possible. Her house is glorious. You find yourself staring at one nook for far too long, studying every detail and filling with envy over your own lack of originality.

I’ve had the privilege of attending (working) many, many weddings and every time the joy is as fresh and exciting as the last one was. I started my day with the bride, Paisley, and the minute I walked into the room she squealed. And truthfully, the squealing never stopped; I’m certain you can hear her excited squeals in every photo.

Taiylor had a clear vision of how she wanted these photos to look and feel, and she fully trusted me to document them genuinely. Her Pinterest board was filled with warmth and movement, and I would call us overachievers in that regard.

In recent years I’ve specialized into documentary wedding photography which is a special balance of editorial and natural moments. It can feel intimidating to couples to want natural candid imagery while also ensuring they get all the moments they’re wanting, unmanufactured.

While most people are not super comfortable in front of the camera, I can typically trust that my subjects will find solace in each other. Watching two people lean into the person they love and trust in a new experience is one of the great secrets of couples shoots.
